Reflection
If you looked through all the previous pages chronicling my work, you can see that not everything went the way I wanted it to. I had holes in my fondant, melting monkeys, and overall less time than I thought I would to work on the cake. These were just a couple of the problems I faced. However, I think these problems in the end helped make my project even better. How you might ask? Well with the little amount of time I had to complete the work, I had to knuckle down and focus on what really needed to be done. I was able to better focus on the work, as I knew that I had a deadline. Now this isn't an ideal process to follow for future projects and work but the added element of stress does help kick you into gear.
With the mistakes such as the hole in the fondant layer I had to figure out ways around the problem. I couldn't remove the entire layer of fondant and start over, that would have wasted a lot of materials and supplies. I had to figure out a way to fix the problem with a round about solution, such as covering it with other decoration. I had to think outside the box a bit, but in the end I think that helped me learn more skills because everything doesn't always go the way you want, however if you can figure out a way to have the project end up the way you want despite of those problems I feel like you've accomplished even more than you originally thought.
The other problem I mentioned of the melting monkey was something that I had to step back and realize that I couldn't control every aspect of the work. I couldn't change the aspects of the fondant's nature. So while I may have wanted the monkey not to be as fat as he was, I learned that it's okay to have things be different than you planned, sometimes they turn out even better in the long run.
Essentially this project taught me that I can definitely learn new skills, achieve new goals and come out the other side of a project with additional knowledge and learning that I can continue to use in new projects and life in general.
